This is the singlet shopping bag (tutorial on craftster.org). It is basically a fabric version of the plastic shopping bags that are used at grocery stores. The handles on this one were a bit difficult. Also, the pocket was a teeeeeeennnnyy bit too small. It should fit the bag in it, like it's own cozy, however it's a bit tight. It will be good for a regular pocket. I love the fabric though :)

This is the curved gusset grocery bag from u-handbag. It was my first time making a bag with a gusset. The handles are padded. This bag is pretty large. I haven't made the cozy for it. I need to pick up some bolt snaps ?! That will also be a first.

I really like the end result with this bag.

Polka Dot Wristlet

I actually ended up making two of these. This one was for my friend for her birthday. I can't recall the exact dimensions, however, they were very similar to the green wristlet with khaki lining. I didn't use any interfacing but the fabric is heavier than normal, so I didn't feel it was completely necessary.

I made this for my friend @ work who mentioned that her hand knit dishcloths had holes in them. Even though they had holes, she still chose to use them over a regular sponge. Now, I have to make dishcloths for everyone so we can all experience the same joy as Lois will when she washes her dishes with this lovely knit item. She thinks it's too pretty to wash dishes with so I'll probably knit another one because I'm nice like that :)

I really like this bag. I took extra special care when making it. This is very roomy and fits all of the stuff that I bring to work every day and even the stuff I bring to baseball. It has fusible interfacing and extra stitching everywhere so that it is stronger since I've been told my bag weighs about 40 lbs when full. I think it's a slight exaggeration. This has a magnetic snap closure and two roomy pockets on the inside.

I made a new sushi tote with this same 'pattern' which wasn't really a pattern, it was more like measurements that I took from another bag that I noticed I used more frequently than any other bag that I have.

I love this fabric. I 've seen a lot of people use it in different projects on craftster. I was so excited that I actually found it locally and got it on sale.

The pink zipper is 7" so the pouch is 7" x 5" x 3". That sushi pouch that I posted very recently I think actually has a 3" bottom like this one. I actually made up a pattern for this one and cut it out of a paper bag. The cut pieces are more triangular which, when put together, makes the pouch more rectangular rather than bigger at the top and smaller at the bottom like others that I put a flat bottom in. (You can see that more in the first picture). This pouch also has a pocked that closes with hook and loop stuff (generic *elcro). When I ironed this, I acidentally melted the adhesive on the back of the *elcro. It stained the outside of the pocket :(, however, I put new *elcro dots on it and they actually stuck without any kind of stitching, so yay! :O)

This sushi zip pouch has a flat bottom and a red 7" zipper. I think it ended up being just over 5" deep and I believe the bottom is 1.5 or 2" flat. There is a pocked on the inside that is divided in two. This one found a home with Alexis :)

Here are some zip pouches made from light blue fabric with cherries and cherry blossoms. The one with the pink zipper is about 7" wide and I think just over 5" deep. The bottom is about 1" flat. The one with the black zipper is about 4" wide and maybe about 3 or 4" deep. I have more of this fabric and at some point am going to make a tote bag :)

I was searching high and low for a pattern for a cable baby blanket. I had something very specific in mind, and I found exactly what I was looking for in a Debbie Bliss book - Simply Baby. I have a good amount of time to finish this one so I know I'll end up doing projects in between. The pattern calls for a yarn that is much more expensive than what I'm using but I love the color of what I picked out.

This is for someone's birthday!!! :) :) :)

The bag is 14" wide x 14" high x 4" deep. The straps are 33-ish inches long. There are two very-roomy pockets that close with velcro. I'm going to make a smaller tote as well. I also made a matching zip pouch which is 7-1/2" wide x a little less than 5-1/2" high. I used this tutorial for the zip pouch, which is the only one so far that has helped me make a zip pouch that I like :)

When I was taking the pictures, I realized that I definitely have to re-do the bottom lining of the tote. terrible sewing. It will come together much nicer hand-sewn, most likely with some red thread. :(

This is a t*ggie blanket that I made for a baby shower. Allegedly, babies play with tags more than the things that the tags are attached to, so someone came up with a blanket that has tags on it. Most commercial ones are 13 x 13 ish and have ribbons for tags. This one is a bit bigger than that. I used two receiving blankets and a remnant of cowboy-themed fabric.

I wonder what the baby will think of it... hmmm...

These are great additions to any baby shower basket full of goodies. They are easy to knit without even looking, for the most part. I liked the pattern for the burp cloth, it would work great for a kitchen towel too, maybe adding a little width and just a little more for height.

Both yarns were sugar n cream. The yellow is sugar n cream elite and the blue was regular sugar n cream. The elite is stretchier, but is still 100% cotton. (Great find @ building 19!)

Riley the Sock Monkey

Here is Riley. He's a sock monkey, of course. He was made from this really great tutorial. This is the first sock monkey that I've made and was given to my son in his Easter basket. He is made from some (what feels like itchy acrylic) dollar store socks, perfect for this project. I liked the design and the color wasn't so bad either, for a monkey He has buttons for eyes that came from a mini button stash that I have that I believe were recycled from some type of clothing, probably really old sweater (thrift store find).

Anywho...Here he is. Though he looks kind of sad because I was taking his picture before he was really ready.

He feels a bit nekkie in this one. Sorry Riley.

Little Sister's New Bag For Easter

I made this Jordy Bag for my little sister for Easter. This pattern is really easy. This is the third time I've used it, though I didn't post the first two bags that I made :( shame on me.It took probably less that two hours, maybe.. I didn't time it, but it was pretty quick. I did have a problem with my sewing machine while I was making it. For some reason, it doesn't like certain threads.I used fusible interfacing on both the lining and the outer fabric. I also used magnetic snaps.Anyhow... Here it is :)A shot of the lining with magnetic snaps. This was a v. simple bag, so no pockets. The outer fabric was a little stretchy, not much, but a little. I think I got it at Joann's out of the remnant bin. Probably $0.80 for it. Maybe less. Actually, the lining fabric is from the same bin. I didn't take measurements of the final piece but I THINK that the cut pieces of fabric were maybe 10 x 11 for the body and 4 x maybe 19 or 21 or something for the strap. The bottom followed Jordy's pattern (link above) for the 1.5" cutouts.

These are the booties. It is a Bernat pattern, which was super easy. I used cottontots in white; same as the cable hat in a previous post. I had a really hard time seaming. It's something that I haven't spent too much time learning. The next time I have to seam something, I'll find better instructions somewhere... anyhow, these are the first booties that I've ever made :)

I've been trying out different tutorials / patterns for tote bags and this one was pretty simple. You basically decide for yourself what size bag you want to make. You just kind of wing it. So, here is a bag that I made with some heart print fabric. The finished size is about 10" high; 9 " wide and the bottom is 4" flat.

Sha Sha Dream Bag

This one was created from a tutorial by buglake on craftster. i found the outside fabric at joann's and the lining fabric at walmart. i used interfacing for it to hold it's shape. small, cute bag! (As of time of photograpy, stray threads had not been cut :/) I'd like to make this one again & when I do, the straps will be slightly longer and the body will be just slightly less triangular (i miscalculated somwehere) overall, it was easy to make and didn't take much time at all!

Cable Hats

Here are some more cable hats that I've finished recently. I used this pattern as a guideline for cast-on though I had to make a lot of changes on the decrease sections for it to actually work out properly. The red one was a Cf6 each 6th row; the gray was Cf6 every 8th row.

The gray one is for my brother; The red one is for his wife.He lives in Utah w/his wife and son. It was 4 degrees there this week, so I'm sure this hat will come in handy.

I ended up hand-sewing in the lining. I could not find magnetic snaps anywhere, so it has no closure. I used a dowel for the handles, though I wish I made them a teeny bit longer. I love it & hope that I actually use it. I especially like the fabric used for the lining. I made this about one cable longer than the one from the pattern

THIS TIME it's the pattern based on the adaptation of the Irish Hiking Scarf, only this is for the matching wristwarmers. The pattern is here. I'm not the best sewer-upper... One thumb hole is a stitch or two tighter than the other. E kindly modeled them for me... Well, I said, 'here, try these on'... then 'oh wait, c'mere so I can take a picture' :)
Mom will probably temporarily steal them from me when she comes to visit next week because no doubt she will be freezing since it's probably no less than 80 degrees in Waikiki.... psssssshhhhh whatever MOM.

I'm currently working on another basic cable beanie in the same color as the wristwarmers.. I would also like to make a thinner version of the irish hiking scarf.

Something that I've also been working on is a cable clutch. This is a fancy smanshy version of it.
I found that after I found THIS. I made mine one cable-length longer but am debating on whether or not I want to take out that last cable. I found two sizes of dowels locally for less than 50 cents. YAY. I have sandpaper and a mini saw... I'm just afraid now of ruining a pencil sharpener.. I'm afraid that it wont work... Anyay, I'm sure I'll figure it out. I made the bag out of LB wool ease thick & quick that I had in my stash from last yr or the yr before from when I first learned how to knit.

At first I found some red fabric that I thought may work... but THEN I found this purple paisley fabric for less than a dollar as well as some ribbon just as cheap @ Joann's.

I loathe sewing things so I think that's why this hasn't been finished yet. Also, I could not find magnetic snaps ANYWHERE locally. Maybe I'm subconsciously waiting for a sewing machine for christmas before I finish this w/ the lining. Plus, I need to go to the dollar store to get some glue sticks for my hot glue gun for the ends of the 'handles'...

BTW.. the seam job on this bad boy came out very neat. I should be glad for that at least.

Finished Basic Cable Beanie

Crochet Cherry Goodness :)

Here is my crochet pattern for crochet cherries...

cherries (make 2):

red yarn (i used sugar n creme cotton in red)

using the magic ring method, 6 sc into ring (6 sc)2sc into each sc (12sc) finish off

stems:

darker green (i used rhss but i can not recall the exact color)

attach to a sc in the top row of one of the cherries, chain 16, attach to a sc in the top row of the other cherry

leaves :

lighter green (i used rhss but can't recall the exact color for this either)*ch 8, sc into 2nd chain from hook, sc into next chain, 2 sc into each of the next 2 chains, sc into next sc, 3 sc into last ch.

(Now you're going to single chain into the other side of the chain that you just did the sc's into, so you're kind of going around in a circle or rectangle. )

sc into next sc, 2 sc into each of the next 2 sc's, sc in next sc, 2 scs into last one (since there's already one there)*, chain one.

from there, take the cherries with the stem attached. slip stitch into the 8th and 9th chain on the stem from one of the cherries then chain one, and repeat from * to * and finish off.

a variation to the leaves could be making one double chain instead of two single chains

I have no idea where or when this started (well, some time last week). I NEEEEEEEDED to learn how to make cables. Now, to be quite honest, in the past year I've only knitted a pretty yellow dishcloth which I gave to my mom, BUT all of a sudden I needed to learn cables and needed to make cable things, so I searched the internet for a cable hat pattern. I rock at making crochet hats, but knitted ones? not so much. I like making things in the round and the only hats that I've made in knit were on straight needles, but I despise sewing things up. I don't like the seam. So anyhow, I borrowed Debbie Stoller's SNB knitting books from my local library, both of them just so I could learn how to make the basic cable beanie hat (or is it beenie? I think it's beanie). I gathered up all of my loose change and bought the right sized needles, well, it called for a sz 7 and 8 circular and size 8 dpn. I had dpn's sort of size 8 ish so I needed sz 7 and 8 circs. Don't you know that no one in my city / town / whatever had sz 7 or sz 8 16" circs. I tried JoAnns, Michaels, Walmart... I had to call AC Moore a few exits up the highway; they only had sz 7's. So, I got sz 6 and sz 7 because I figured that my knit tension is a little loose and it would be for the boy anyway, so I could go a little smaller.
Anyhow (actually, made two practice cable projects but more about that in a different post at some point.)

So, I started whipping up this bad-boy. Thes pics are close to the half-way point and are taken from my cam phone. I've since finished it (can you see bright lights and hear the 'aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh' of angels? I can.) I'll post finished pics when I get to it...

The only thing that I don't like about knitting this hat in the round is that it is knit from the bottom up. I like making hats from the top down because you can try it on as you go and you'll know if you need to increase more for girth or continue with more rounds (in this instance of ribbing or of cables) for extra length because the original from the pattern is rather small / short. Way above eyebrow level. The only other modification that I made aside from the change in needle size was adding 4 more rows of ribbing. The pattern called for six rows, I think, and I knit ten rows of ribbing.

I got some woole-ease in gray and red and am planning on whipping out at least two more of these for xmas presents (MAYBE) we'll see. But, that's the plan.

Amigurumi Projects

This is my first attempt to make a post with a picture (or rather, pictures). Here are some amigurumi's that I've made. I made them from patterns that i found on the www. I learned of amigurumi's while searching for a crochet monkey pattern to make a stuffed monkey for my son. Little did I know, I'd be obsessively hoarding any kind of free pattern that I could find for cute crochet critters for weeks. I now have an enormous list of amigurumis to make, but here are the ones that I've done so far.

Mr. Monkey. He belongs to my son. He likes monkeys. He and this monkey are both very cute. Mr. Monkey does not have a tail. Maybe someday I will decide to 'finish' him by giving him a tail.:

Mr. Frog (This one went to my Nana who said that I did a really nice job, which actually meant a lot since she's an EXPERT knitter.) Nana loves frogs. I'll have to get a picture of Nana w/Mr. Frog.

Here's Miss Kitty. She turned out bigger than I had expected. Addy seems to like her. Well. She's ignored her ever since, but she was obviously interested in Miss Kitty or the 'thing' that I made her sit next to until I could get a decent pucture. Miss Kitty was a pain to put together, not sure why since Mr. Monkey was a breeze. I accidentally sewed Miss Kitty's tail where her arm was supposed to go. I fixed that though. Now her tail resides in its proper spot.

Here is a chihuaua. I had a good name for him, of which I've since forgotten. His new owner, who was SUPER EXCITED to get him (yay!) named him Taco. I can't believe that I don't remember it's name. It'll come to me. CHOWDER... His name was chowder, or Chowda, whichever you prefer. For some reason I can not upload the pic...

So... I'd like to start a blog. I'm a blog lurker, mostly looking for easy knit and crochet patterns to collect and / or make something from... Sometimes people's blog-lives or lives that they talk about on their blogs are interesting in a boring sort of way. It's like reading a book. Maybe I'll write about myself, my trials and tribulations, but maybe this will be only about crafting, etc.... We shall see!
